“I’m still there... a puncher working on my ground game. Mixed martial arts, it’s that type of training where you learn life. The more you roll, the more you learn. That’s something you have to continue to do,” said Kimbo, adding that he has signed on to train with American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla. (MMA Weekly)
"Dana always tells people to put their money where your mouth is," Walker said. "And I'll tell Dana that since he says I'm so old, why doesn't step in the ring with me because he's been practicing (MMA), as well?" (MMA Junkie)
“He’s probably two fights away from literally emptying out the middleweight division,” White said. “But that’s great. I think in my opinion, that’s what makes fighters great. When there’s not another guy standing where people go, ‘What about him? He might win.’ When they’re all gone, then the guy moves up to the next weight class and does the same thing. I think that’s what makes guys legendary, fighters that people remember forever.” (5th Rd.)
"I've worked my butt off and I feel I really deserve a title shot. That's why I signed with Strikeforce to get a title shot. I could have went straight to the UFC. They were offering the same money, but at the end of the day, I wanted to pursue my dream of becoming a world champion and the quickest way to do that was Strikeforce. Like I said, I would like my next shot to be for the title; if not against Diaz, then against somebody else. I can't wait for this guy nor can I control what he does. It is what it is man. I just want my title shot and what I signed with these guys for. I don't want to keep fighting these non-title fights because that's not what I came here for," stated Strikeforce welterweight contender Jay Hieron as he talked about his future plans and his strong desire to fight for the Strikeforce welterweight title. Dream 12 will mark the debut of the promotion's hexagonal cage, a departure from the standard ring that has been used in virtually all major MMA organizations in Japan. Dream event producer Keiichi Sasahara also announced that the cage -- which they anticipate using for a single card once a year -- will also accompany the adoption of three five-minute rounds for the event. Typically, Dream uses a 10-minute opening round followed by a five-minute second round. (Sherdog)
Yoshihiro Akiyama will travel stateside in October to train with Shawn Tompkins and the Xtreme Couture MMA camp in Las Vegas, Sherdog.com has learned. (Sherdog)
What are your goals at this stage of your fight career?
At this stage, I look at it as the second half of my career. So for me, technically, my career began again back in June. So I'm looking at it that I'm 1-0 and I'm starting my new career and I'm looking to go 2-0 and see how far I can take it. I've made the statement a couple of times that I want to be the next Randy Couture, and me being 38-years-old, soon to be 39, I feel like I'm in great shape and I finally had surgery to repair my knee [and I got] a couple of little injuries that I need to get taken care of. But once I get back to 100%, I think I can make a decent run at a title, whether it's with the MFC or any of the other promotions. (Fanhouse)
