With Anderson Silva possibly retiring when his contract is up next year, it's only fitting that the UFC give Silva what he wants. Silva has competed in the Middleweight Division for most of his career and he has reached it's peak. Now, Silva wants to compete in the best division in the world, the Light Heavyweight Division.
Before I go on, I will say that I think the UFC MW division is stacked with a lot of great fighters such as Henderson, Maia, Akiyama, and Belfort. I would actually love to see those 4 fight Silva because I think they would be great fights. However, it seems like Silva doesn't see it that way and wants to move on or should I say up a division.
I consider the LHW division to be the best division in mma. It is stacked from top to bottom and every fight is a tough fight. They have the bigger fights and receive bigger paydays. It's the division where legends are made. Just look at Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva.
I don't think Anderson is looking for more money or fame, but he is looking for bigger challenges and he would have that in the LHW division. Fighting and beating guys like Rampage and Shogun would cement his legacy as one of the best ever. I'm not saying that wins over Henderson and Belfort aren't huge because they are, I just think a win over Rampage and Shogun would be bigger.
As much as I think Silva still has a lot of good fights left in the MW division, it is time for Anderson Silva to move up and cement his legacy as one of the best fighters ever.
